At the 11th hour on the 11th of the 11th month, the armistace that ended World War 1 came into effect (11th November 1918). It was not before another 2738 soldiers were killed on that final day, even to the minute of armistace, or the laying down of arms.
This time has been accepted worldwide as a time to commemorate those who have given their lives to us in not only World War 1 but also World War 11 and other wars.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Not many today actually realise that some 40 mil soldiers and civilians died either during or as a result of the First World War and estimates as high as 60 mil for World War 11. This is catastrophic and something we would never want repeated.
