Yet another victory in court today - this time against more maladministration by KZN Athletics.
We were approached by Sello Mokoena for assistance after he was properly nominated for election to the positions of Athletics South Africa president, vice president and additional member in their upcoming elections scheduled for 31 May 2025, but, excluded from the nominations list by KZN Athletics with a feeble excuse of his nomination being submitted late (something which was factually incorrect).
After extensive attempts at an amicable resolution with KZN Athletics, whom to this day refuse to take responsibility, an urgent High Court application was the only recourse left.
One can only surmise why KZNA excluded Sello Mokoena from the list considering he has been nominated to run against the incumbent KZNA president for the same positions at ASA, but ethics and justice prevailed and Mr Mokoena left court with an order that he be placed on the nominations list by ASA.
One has to ask when political plays in sporting bodies will come to an end as the politics and maladministration in so many of these entities ultimately suck much needed budget away from the goals of sports development etc where the money would be far better spent.
Let us hope that the upcoming elections at ASA this weekend deliver a slate of honest, ethical and focussed individuals who put sport above their own interests.
